Choosing A Liquidity Pair

With my lack of abundant experience, I hesitate to go into DEEP analysis. All comments and decisions made are mine only. Timing and patience (or lack there of) may cause you to make entirely different decisions.

First, I go to Krystal to explore some options. After opening up a Krystal tab and choosing Arbitrum One network, this is what I saw today.

Within the Arbitrum One network, this is the first page that was displayed when I pulled it up this morning.

Clearly, an APR (the third column from the left) of almost 3,000% could make anyone rich. It won’t. To eliminate the short-lived opportunities, we refine the search a little. We click on the “Advanced Filter” and make these selections.

To be extra safe, the “From” could be 400,000. However, 200,000 is typically used by my guru.

Making these choices will greatly reduce the APRs we might earn. Since the original APRs were “false”, it is no great loss. The first page with the advanced search looked like this when I pulled it up today.

While typically, I would have also looked at the second page. The first page will be enough for this exercise. What criteria do we use next? We look at the “TVL” (4th Column). If the TVL is higher than the “24h Volume,” that pair/opportunity is eliminated.

This graphic shows the pairs that are eliminated. (in red) The pairs in green are the 3 opportunities with the highest TVLs once the pairs in red are eliminated. While there may have been additional opportunities on the second page of my advanced search, all opportunities below a 60% APR are discarded.

Once we get our opportunities (green above), we need to validate the volume and the APR. To prevent this post from getting too long, I am going to finish the rest of it on the “MAGIC/WETH” opportunity. When researching further on Krystal, I click on “MAGIC/WETH” and arrive at this page with this information.

Now, we want to validate the average volume on Dexscreener. On the image above, the 45 day average volume is less than the 24h volume(1.862M to 1.158M) Since it is more than half, I feel confident continuing to work with this opportunity. I have additional screening criteria I could have used, but in this case, I have gone ahead and created a test position.

With the price range listed in the top left corner, the estimated APR would be nearly 250%. In the world of liquidity pooling, this needs to be monitored. As a test position, I just wait to see what it looks like in 7 days.
In the less than 2 hours, this pair made $0.24. Yes, this is not retirement money. If this rate continues, it would be an APR of over 130%. I am not getting super-excited yet. It is better than it would do at a bank. With the increase in the value of the 2 pairs in the pool (Profit & Loss), there is another income opportunity.

With less than 2 months in, I have plenty to learn. I keep taking baby steps. I blog like I know what I am doing while allowing for small mistakes trying out test positions. If there are losses, I hope they are small. If there are lessons learned, I would really like them to “stick” the first time.
