Bots, Bleeding, and Built-In Protection (a.k.a. My Wife)

All of this red is an indication of the “blood” spilled in Forex this week. I am grateful for EFX’s promise to protect my account, but how long will it be until normal monthly returns can be expected?

Is the bleeding over? Probably not. Between my bot account and my Schwab account, I’ve surrendered over 10% during this past week. But after last summer’s NURP (Negative Unrealized Profit) debacle, this week’s losses barely caused a blip on my stress radar. Call it battle-hardened resolve or just emotional numbness. Either way, I’m surviving.

The One-Two Punch: Forex and Stocks

This wasn’t a Forex-only fiasco. Nope, the stock market decided to join the fun, delivering a double whammy to my portfolio. Unfortunately, my access to extra funds for Forex is currently locked behind a formidable gate: my wife’s veto.

After last summer’s losses, her “why would you trust a bot again?” stance is still firmly in place. Honestly, I’m grateful for her built-in protection against my own worst impulses. If I can’t convince myself to invest, there’s no way I’m getting past the household CFO.

Should I Break Up with Bots?

With the sins of the bots piling up, I’ve started wondering if I need a new hobby—or at least a different approach to income generation. Bots sit pretty close to stock market investing on the passive-to-non-passive spectrum. You set them up, cross your fingers, and check your account every so often. But when things go south, they have a way of shaking your confidence like a bad rollercoaster.

Maybe I need something less passive. Developing a SaaS product? Running a business? Learning how to trade manually and actually sticking to it? All options are on the table. None of them sound easy or particularly fun, but at least they wouldn’t leave me questioning my life choices every time market chaos rolls in.

Gut Checks and the Fantasy of Perfection

Every time the bots make me wonder why I’m still in this game, I find myself wishing for the same thing: predictability. A bot that always works. An investment that never fails. A strategy that doesn’t require constant gut checks. Then I remind myself that this is all a fantasy.

Nothing is perfect—not bots, not stocks, not even the idea of ditching it all to start a business. Losses happen. Chaos reigns. And all we can do is adjust, adapt, and put on the right clothes to face the storm.

What Now?

For now, I’ll stay in the game, but I’m keeping my options open. Maybe I’ll find the perfect balance. Maybe I won’t. But one thing’s for sure: I’ll keep learning, adjusting, and—most importantly—listening to my wife when she tells me to think twice. After all, she’s never been wrong. (Don’t tell her I said that.)
