After an upgrade to the OS on my Mac, I was ready to dive back into researching new liquidity pools. The problem was my wallet. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t log in. Until I logged in, my Krystal and other research tools would not work. So, the adventure began…
- After reloading Chrome a few times and playing around with the the Chrome tabs I had open, I uninstalled the MetaMask extension. (One of my Crypto wallets.)
- Assuming it would now work, I expected to type in my MetaMask password before continuing my search.
- Unfortunately, my MetaMask Chrome extension had other ideas. When I tried to use it, it kept staring at me blankly. (It was in fact spinning like it was dizzy and unfamiliar with me.) It wouldn’t give me a place to enter my password. It wouldn’t give me any indication it still “liked” me.
- Somewhere in this process, I began to wonder if my Crypto journey was going to end with a big fat ZERO. I took a deep breath, and I attempted a couple of different things.
- After closing Chrome completely, I opened the MetaMask only tab. (MetaMask was the only tab open.)
- This got me closer, but it was not the ideal result. I was given the opportunity to recover my wallet.
- When the page came up asking for my “seed phrase,” I knew which binder I needed to grab off of the shelf.
- After entering the 12 words that made up my seed phrase, MetaMask cooperated fully. I did have to re-add my Trezor to my wallet, but I was quickly relieved of my fears.
- When I had my call with the guide yesterday, he took some time to make sure my crypto wallet hadn’t been compromised. He seemed convinced my wallet and its contents were still safe. This allowed me to remove all fear of the wallets safety.
After my LinkedIn account was stolen a couple months ago (and recovered), I am very sensitive to the trust placed in the internet and access to our financial websites. (e.g. banks, Schwab, Fidelity, etc.) Surprises in this area are not pleasant. The security measures tied me in knots temporarily. That’s okay. If I was tied in knots and had all of the answers/words, anyone with ill intent would have had a much more difficult problem. Crypto Wallet: 1 – Crypto Hackers/Scammers: 0.
