Why Did I Start My Farm?

As I learn to be content with my one little bot, I wonder why I wanted more. Octane has given me warm feelings after the NURP bots made me feel like all they wanted me for was my money.

Going into my 3rd week with Octane, and it has already made over 5%. It may not have a 20% month like Dalio or The Fed might have, but those gains are highly over-rated. When contrasted against the shuffling of funds and the sacrificed sleep, a 5% monthly gain is just what I wanted. If I were a “real” trader, I would want more than 5%. As a casual guy who wants to diversify without knowing how to make every chart tell a 10-minute story, Octane again checks the box.

I got into trading bots to develop a hobby, and I hoped a profitable income stream. Sweating every market swing is the bots job; it was never designed to be mine.

Why is the bot more successful for me this time around?

  • When using Octane before, I was new to having a bot and a VPS. I had to login often and pretend I was smarter than I was. Now, I just view the account from my phone. I can’t mess anything up, and the bot doesn’t have to encourage me to do dumb money-losing things.
  • I didn’t appreciate the conservative way Octane went into trades. It is not going to use ever bigger and bigger lot sizes to tame a series of trades. It goes in until a point, but after awhile, it says, “Nah, I will wait until the Forex pair comes back to reality.” This may have the bot sitting idle for a period of time, but it is better than blowing the account.
  • While talking about blowing an account, Octane has equity protection. As someone who has used bots that didn’t have this, this is very important. My equity is MY money. If the bot only cares about conquering, it cares nothing about my money. Octane goes, “How will it affect this account if I put in another trade? I don’t want to buy too big of a lot that it could put this account in a REALLY bad place.” Other bots plow through an account because it is there. It is not because they care about what gains you have accumulated at the end of the month.

If NURP and other bot suppliers want to continue to be successful, they need to take a page from the EFX Octane bot. If we as bot investors stop saying, “I am willing to watch my account constantly and rescue it with a money infusion when the bot is going rogue.”, we might start getting more bots that care for our money as much as we do!
