What started as a couple of trades with AUDJPY turned into a full assault on my Fed account. When I thought, “I turned off ‘auto-trading’ at 250% margin level. I am fine.”, I could not have been more wrong. This forex pair did everything it could to ravage my account. The $60,000 drawdown at dinner time was nearly double this before I went to bed. I closed another bot down to transfer more money into the account.
When I awoke (by the grace of God, I slept at all), I saw scary things on my MT4 bot.

I could not preserve all of my account, but I preserved enough. (Of course, it was not enough. I didn’t lose it all.) When I saw the email from NURP sent at 12:30 this morning, it gave me the strength to swallow the bitter pill: All Trades Must Be Closed. I tried to be strategic. Yet, my lack of experience likely meant I could have done better.
From now on…
- I have one bot running right now. By Labor Day, I may half Dalio’s account size and bring a bot back to life.
- With only one bot running, there will not be much to write about. I am still “mourning” a bit, and my writing regularity may suffer in August.
- I am going to focus on having multiple bots but smaller account sizes. Based on the recent losses, I am not going to trust bots too quickly again. I will lick my wounds, and I must convince myself there are enough good bots to make my bot farm viable.
- I have updated myFXbook so it only shows my active bot. I don’t need to be reminded to the bots that disappointed me over the past few months.
- I am exploring a couple of other investing options. I will see how motivated I am to pursue/learn them.
