Dilly Dallying With Dalio

I could not resist the alliteration, but there is truth in it. NURP came out with their new bot within the past couple of weeks. I have gone back and forth on whether I wanted to jump in and follow the crowd. After analyzing the “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts”, I did make my decision.

CONS

  • As with all new bots with NURP, there is a monthly fee you must pay. This depends on the type of account you have with NURP. With my anticipated account size, the account should do approximately 15X the monthly fee. (I am avoiding specific numbers because I don’t know if the fee structure is the same as when I joined in December 2023. Comment or email me. I will let you know what I paid.)
  • If I turn these funds over to this bot, then I am limited on what I can do with other new bots. A 4.5% return is good, but there are bots with better monthly returns. (They also have much bigger drawdown…)

PROS

  • The full name of this algo trading bot is “Dalio Low DD.” After witnessing some disconcerting drawdowns in the past few days, low drawdowns are MUCH better than high drawdowns.
  • NURP tests their products. If they tell me the bot will do an average of 4.5%/month, I will believe them.
  • NURP can’t foresee everything. There is a setting within the software that allows you to tell the bot the maximum amount of drawdown you will tolerate. (i.e. If you put “15%” in the proper place, the bot will close all transactions so your account doesn’t go into drawdown deeper than that point.)
  • My other bots have already made $10,000 in the month of May. Barring any crazy occurrences, $12,000 or maybe even $15,000 is possible this month. The addition of this bot would make an expectation of $15,000 – $20,000/month very realistic. After the problems in April, this would get me back on track.
  • It is new and “pretty”, so why shouldn’t I jump in and try it out?

To me, the choice was clear. If the bot makes a “miserable” 3%/month, I make 36%/year. I am far exceeding what the money would make in a CD. Dalio here I come!
