It is great to “own” all of the sign rental spots at a particular strip mall (“owning” is a reference to the city requires signs to be licensed. Since they only grant so many licenses for certain locations, own is not a huge stretch.), but you do need more signs if you want to cover your cost.
This has been my predicament for a couple of months. My “guy” has not been able to add any signs to my roster, so I have not been able to start gaining a foothold at any other strip malls. (Rules are different from city to city. Some need permits. Some have rules limited how long the signs can be up. And, some have no rules.) Fortunately, we are having a few nice days in mid-January. I have been assured I will have more signs by the end of the long weekend.
However, as I await the signs, I continue to provide quotes to customers who want signs or letters shipped to them. This is great, but my rental business continues to see these “retail” sales as distractions to my “guy” from building the signs necessary to develop the rental business. Where will the rental business go? I hope to have a better idea on Monday….
