Getting The Sign Permit

As we juggle fulfilling orders while getting signs built to get the rental business going, one thing was unavoidable–I had to figure out how to complete the paperwork for a sign permit.

Not all areas in Dallas-Ft Worth require permits (most of Dallas does not officially allow portable signs).  Different suburbs also have different rules – 2 months of a sign w/ one month down or sometimes only a month at a time.  Since my first sign was in Ft Worth, I needed to use the official process to acquire one.  (Almost two months ago, I had to get an official license from Ft Worth to give me the privilege to apply for a license to set out a particular rental signs.)  The form and site map were all submitted via email.  (We guessed a little on a couple of the questions, and we left a view blanks “blank” to set the bar really low for any future permits we apply for. )  After a couple of email exchanges and a credit card charge (I cannot explain why $75.68 is the amount chosen to charge for this license.), I had a sign permit number.

Now, the rental business officially begins!  The permit will not sit idle long before it is attached to a sign being hastily prepared to promote my first customer’s business.  The next few signs (when built) are already spoken for.  God willing, the quality of my signs and letters will bring in a few more customers over the next few weeks and months.  A little nervous about the change in business focus, but when it is about staying in business and not a particular business, being flexible is non-negotiable.
